Showed tremendous promise during his amateur career, which was highlighted by his individual victory in the Putra Cup in 1993, and helped Singapore land the team title. When he turned professional in 1994, he enjoyed a dream start in the paid ranks as he scored a hole in one to claim a luxury car on his debut. In 1997, he shot to prominence at Royal Troon when he became the first Singaporean to qualify for The Open Championship.
