Born in San Roque, his father caddied at their local club – the first public course in Spain. Won on the Challenge Tour in 2006 before claiming his European Tour card at Qualifying School the same year. His first victory on the European Tour came in his debut appearance as a full member, at the 2007 Alfred Dunhill Championship. Has won seven European Tour titles including the 2011 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai. Standing at 6ft 3in tall, he is one of the longest hitters on tour and topped the Driving Distance category in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and 2011. Coached by former Ryder Cup player and four-time European Tour champion José Rivero whom he cites as one of the biggest influences on his career.
